What is TaeKwon-Do Priest?

For those who don't me my name is Mike Hindley. I am married to Kate and have a beautiful daughter Anna who is about 4 weeks old. The title of this blog may have intrigued you if you're reading this so let me expand a little on that - I am a follower of Jesus Christ (currently in ordained ministry in the Church of England) and a black belt (I Dan) in TaeKwon-Do. The term 'TaeKwon-Do Priest' was first given to me by Master Gary Miller (VI Dan) when I was at Bible college and training with him at Oxford University TaeKwon-Do school.

'TaeKwon-Do Priest' is a term I like - because it shows much of what I am passionate about in one, simple phrase. First, I've thoroughly enjoyed training in TaeKwon-Do for nearly ten years. During that time I've met many interesting people and learned some invaluable lessons for life and ministry - things like: setting goals to achieve results, perseverance even when training gets tough, self control in all things, respect for others regardless of background or experience. (This is not unlike the list of character traits the apostle Peter lists in 2 Peter 1:5-8!).

Secondly, I like the term 'TaeKwon-Do Priest' is because it reminds me of my role as a Christian. Although I am licensed by the church as a clergyman, every Christian can be described as a 'priest'. This is because the priest is someone who mediates between people and God. Christians are those who know God through Jesus Christ, and they are able to share with others what God has done in their lives and the great news that God is now near to everyone because of Christ too! So here I am, the TaeKwon-Do priest in the blog-world! I'm planning to hang around here for a bit and develop my blog, but please do drop me a line at any time it'd be great to hear from you.
